Pioneer & Onkyo Europe GmbH is to launch the BDP-180 Blu-ray Disc Player, capable of upscaling to 4K/24p and playing a wide range of content, including Hi-Res (high-resolution) Audio.
Thanks to its Ultra HD (4K/24p) Upscaling capabilities, the BDP-180 enables you to enjoy 4K-resolution movies and other content simply by connecting to any 4K/24p compatible television. It can also play Hi-Res Audio in WAV, FLAC, ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec) and DSD. Additional compatibility with multi-channel audio in WAV and FLAC ensures that the BDP-180 can play a wide range of formats. Other features include compatibility with “YouTube Send to TV*1”, to enable you to watch YouTube movies on your television, and with “Miracast™”, to enable you to wirelessly screen movies from your smart phones on your television too, so that you can enjoy an even wider range of content. The BDP-180 is equipped with features designed to provide easier access to content, including “Quick/Slow View with Audio”, which enables videos to be played at 1.5x or 0.8x their normal speed without changing the pitch of the audio, handy “REPLAY” and “SHORT SKIP” functions to enable you to jump back or skip ahead through scenes, and “Continued Viewing Playback”, so that you can continue playback from the last scene, memorized on the player.
Main features
1. “Ultra HD (4K/24p) Upscaling”
Simply connect the BDP-180 to a 4K/24p compatible television to automatically upscale full HD (1080/24p) movie content to 4K/24p. Other resolutions video signals can also be upscaled to 4K/24p via the resolution settings on the player or using the HDMI button on the remote control.
2. Compatible with a wide range of media and file formats
In addition to movies stored on your smartphone or computer, the BDP-180 can play movies recorded in BD-R/RE (BDAV), DVD (VR mode) or high definition AVCHD™. It is also compatible with Hi-Res Audio files stored on USB memory devices (WAV, FLAC, ALAC, DSD), 3D image files (MPO) shot using a 3D digital camera, and formats such as SACD, as well as multi-channel audio in WAV and FLAC.
3. Watch YouTube movies on your television with “YouTube Send to TV”
The BDP-180 is compatible with “YouTube Send to TV*1”, so that you can enjoy watching movies on your television from the YouTube app on your smartphone. It is also compatible with “Miracast™” and “Wi-Fi Direct™”, meaning that you can connect directly to a smartphone, tablet or other compatible device via Wi-Fi and mirror the screen on your television, enabling you to enjoy photos, movies and other content stored on your device on a big screen. Compatibility with DLNA (1.5) meanwhile makes it possible to play content stored on Digital Media Servers (DLNA compatible NAS, Windows PCs, etc.).
4. “Quick/Slow View with Audio”
“Quick View with Audio” enables you to play movies at roughly 1.5x the speed while still listening to audio in formats such as Blu-ray and DVD, so that you can catch up with the action in a movie or drama in a shorter space of time. “Slow View with Audio” enables you to play movies at around 0.8x the speed, for purposes such as learning languages or practicing dance at a slower pace. As both functions play movies without altering the pitch of audio or music tracks, you can watch movies or dramas, or practice languages or dance, without content sounding strange.
5. Designed to match Pioneer AV receivers
The BDP-180 features center layout and symmetry design, so that it matches with Pioneer brand AV receivers. There is no wasted space, just a refined, elegant device whose design will tie in perfectly with your AV receiver.
